What is Melaklean?
MELAKLEAN is an air treatment product. It is designed to remove bacteria, mould and yeast from air
conditioning systems.
It is most effective in air-conditioned environments. This product addresses all potential areas of contamination
within a HVAC system. It is specifically formulated as an anti-microbial treatment, which helps to ensure that the
HVAC system remains free of potentially harmful microbial contamination
Melaklean lasts for 6-8 weeks for an average sized air conditioned home. Ask our technicians for commercial and
industrial treatment applications.
-
Are any of the Melaklean ingredients toxic or harmful to the environment?
MELAKLEAN is specifically formulated for application to internal air-conditioning components.
The suite of Melaklean products presents no toxicological implications to human health;
using only naturally available materials in its formulation.
In addition, the product is “environmentally friendly”. By improving the efficiency of an air conditioning plant,
use of MELAKLEAN can reduce the energy consumed by large air conditioning installations.
Since ventilation and cooling accounts for up to 50% of the energy consumed by commercial buildings,
a reduction in this demand helps to reduce overall CO2 emissions and has significant environmental benefits.
For further information a MSDS is for available.
-
Where can Melaklean products be used?
Melaklean products can be used in any closed air environment in the home, work place, car etc.
-
What is a closed air environment?
A closed air environment is one where air is recirculated.
-
Can Melaklean products be used with any brand of air conditioning unit?
Yes.
-
How easily can it be installed?
Melaklean for air-conditioning systems is designed for easy installation in your domestic or small office
air-conditioning (HVAC). This air treatment pack is simply placed it in your return air vent.
Melaklean for single rooms is designed for use in rooms that are not air conditioned, and is simply placed
somewhere within your room on any piece of furniture or shelf.

How often should the Heating Ventilation and Air Cooling (HVAC) system be cleaned?
If the HVAC is treated with MELAKLEAN no contamination will occur and a simple 6 to 8 weekly treatment with
the product will guarantee no microbiological re-growth. When a system is not protected with MELAKLEAN,
microbial growth will begin very soon after a HVAC system has been cleaned, and the associated problems
can return quickly.

How do yeast, mould and bacteria get into a HVAC system?
Fungus, mould and bacteria are common throughout all environments on earth. They proliferate particularly
where there is moisture and where they have a source of nutrients. Within a building’s air handling infrastructure,
the damp surfaces of heat exchange coils and the duct-laden air filters provide ideal environments for a wide
range of bacteria and fungi to thrive. Since building air conditioning system typically rely on a combination of
"fresh" air from outside and air that is recirculated within the building, it is impossible to prevent spores,
bacteria and various microorganisms from entering the indoor environment. However, by treating the air handling
surfaces with MELAKLEAN, one can prevent the extensive colonisation that often occurs within the HVAC system.
-
What is involved in sanitising a HVAC system with Melaklean?
The HVAC system has four main areas that can be contaminated. MELAKLEAN is specifically formulated to address
each of these areas:
HVAC filters should be changed fairly regularly, depending upon their individual design specifications.
When air filters are changed, the replacement filters should be treated with MELAKLEAN.
This will inhibit fungal growth within the filter, resulting in extended filter life and helping to
reduce the concentration in the indoor environment of a range of potentially harmful organic particles.
The cooling coil surfaces provide an ideal environment for bacterial colonisation.
Cleaning the coils with MELAKLEAN will inhibit the organic material that builds up between the coil fins,
returning the heat efficiency and air flow of the system to its original design; this leaves a residual
coating on the coil surfaces. Treatment with a MELAKLEAN unit every 4 to 6 weeks will ensure that this is
maintained.
Air conditioning system surfaces, in particular the internal surfaces of the air handling units, can be sources
of contamination by bacteria, mould and fungus. Treating these surfaces with MELAKLEAN removes the contamination
and provides a barrier against future colonisation.
The ductwork usually makes up the largest surface area of an air handling system. The internal surfaces are
often covered in dust, which provides a perfect environment for the growth of micro organisms.
Treating with MELAKLEAN provides a surface with a microbial barrier against future contamination.

What can I expect from a Melaklean treated HVAC system?
The extent of the change varies dramatically, depending primarily on the state of a building's air handling
infrastructure prior to MELAKLEAN treatment.
In general, one should expect a reduction in odours, a reduction in the occurrence of stale or stuffy air
pockets due to improved airflow, and an overall improvement in occupant satisfaction with the indoor environment.
In addition, improved air quality should result in an improvement in occupant health - reflected in a reduced
rate of skin and eye irritations, and other respiratory symptoms.
